Stop Trying

Vassar Street, Cambridge, MA
There's a lot that God has taught me recently. Most of which centers around His love for me. I don't want to preach at you, but this realization has had the largest impact on my life since I first became a Christian.

Do you know what a relief it is to not have to try anymore? To not try to earn God's love, to not try to gain His acceptance, to not try to be good and do better, to not try to earn others' approval? I haven't given up on following Christ in obedience, but it's not about gaining God's love anymore. I know I have His acceptance and love and because it doesn't change, I can't get any more love by "being good".

Instead, obedience is about His best for me. I know God has my best in mind whenever anything happens that feels out of control. And I know that following Him will ultimately lead to my best. So while this journey is all about God and glorifying Him, I know that I'm taken care of. This is a blessing and a comfort.

And it's all backed up by Christ.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." - John 10:10
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9
